MAES will be hosting a Science Extravaganza presented by the Navy and they need volunteers! Volunteer to expose 300 high school students to the wonders of STEM. Also enjoy free lunch, t-shirts, and tickets for a volunteer raffle! The event will be on Saturday October 18th 8:30am-3pm on the San Diego State Campus.
The Del Mar Mud Run 5k is back at the historic Del Mar Fairgrounds for the 5th consecutive year. We have the fun opportunity of being a part of this event while raising funds for our organization as well! We will be volunteers helping at the different stations along the route. The more volunteers we have attend for our group the larger the donation! Plus you get an awesome volunteer shirt to roll around in the mud with. It is time again for SWEET! This year's theme is the science and technology of the Renaissance! Scheduled for April 20th, 2013 from 11:30AM to 5:30AM, this annual collaboration with San Diego Girl Scouts Imperial Council is a great opportunity to give back to the community and to encourage our future women engineers. SWE-SD partnership with the Girl Scouts creates and provides an incredible half day workshop full of engineering-related activities for 5th - 8th grade girls from throughout San Diego county
As a committee member, you will work with female engineers to help create, plan and coordinate the activities. Committee meetings are held every other Thursday at 6pm (starting on Feb. 21). SDSU MAES (Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists) is looking for volunteers for the Girls Day Out event taking place on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Come and help young middle school girls take their first step towards a degree in math, engineering, and science! Science projects and lab tours will be taking place on the SDSU campus. The Expanding Your Horizons Conference is looking for female mentors! This year's theme is "Science Olympics" and will be held at USD on Saturday, March 2, 2013. The EYH Conference provides hands-on exploration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for girls in grades 6-10. Mentors will be escorting girls to their workshops and helping them with their activities throughout the day while sharing positive experiences as a college student. If you are interested in becoming a mentor for a day, please fill out the registration form here! Please note that all mentors will be required to complete one of two training sessions prior to the conference at USD. Application deadlines are Feb. 22, 2013 so sign up now!
The week long San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering culminates in Expo Day at Petco Park on Saturday, March 23, 2013 between 9:30AM - 5:30PM featuring hundreds of Science and Engineering booths. SWE San Diego will be hosting a booth at the expo demonstrating the power of Simple Machines for families across San Diego County. We are looking for volunteers who can work a 2 hour shift at our SWE booth! If you are interested in volunteering please sign up here!
The 2013 Greater San Diego High School Science and Engineering Fair judging day on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 11AM. The fair is held at the Balboa Park Activity Center at 2145 Park Blvd. Students from 7th through 12th grades will be displaying their projects proudly. Judges will spend 2-3 hours during lunchtime talking to the students about their projects and ultimately select SWE-SD award winners. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up here.
